I was held as an inmate of Wormwood Scrubs prison, during the cold month of February.
I was held in a cell that had NO glass or perspex in the window, and it was open to the elements, which were near freezing point.
I complained to the prison about these inhumane conditions, and received a reply from the wing governor who said the the cell was fit for purpose even at those temperatures.
Please help me prosecute the prison and the wing governor, as I feel that this is a crime,as if I held someone at home in a locked room in these conditions then I would be breaking the law and would expect to be punished.
I have since received a letter from the Prisoners Advice Service that months later after my release, that prisoners are still being held in these conditions and the glass/perspex has not been replaced.
Surely the prison has a duty of care towards the inmates? Outside the officers offices they have a prison statement that inmates will be treated with respect and humanity at all times. I do not see where the humanity is, by holding inmates, who are under their care in these conditions.
Thanks
Mairtin
