- THIS SENTENCE HAS BEEN INCREASED ON APPEAL (REFERENCE BY THE ATTORNEY GENERAL UNDER S.36 CJA 1988)
She was found guilty of the murder of her 11-month-old son, Callum, in Windsor, Berkshire, on 18 March 2011. She caused her child to suffer a serious brain injury as well as fractures and bruising. Her victim died in hospital on 21 March 2011. She had blamed her older (23-month-old) son for Callum's death, but medical experts said he could not have fractured Callum's ribs which was consistent with violent squeezing of the chest.
The judge said: "You are still 25 years old and were, until your conviction, a person of good character... Clearly you were a good mother to your other child but you rejected Callum and acted against him. ... Callum was vulnerable and you were responsible for looking after him. You must have been the person who caused him the injuries which in the last 10-14 days of his life ... and you must have been responsible for the injuries on March 17, 2011, from which he died." - Online Resources
