- He was found guilty of burglary in Plymouth, Devon, between 21 March 2014 and 10 April 2014. He broke into his neighbours flat and stole documents which were marked as restricted from his work at Devonport Dockyard (for Babcock Marine). He then sought to sell the documents to the Polish government. He was caught in a joint operation between the British security services and the Metropolitan Police after he demanded £50,000 from men he met in a hotel in Plymouth who he thought were officials from the Polish embassy. He has previous convictions, in Poland, which include burglary. The court heard that his victim was suspended from his work and has lost his high level of security clearance.
The judge said: "You are not the bumbling fool you have sought to portray in your evidence. In my view you are both calculating and clever. You stole and sought to sell documents which you understood to be sufficiently sensitive and no doubt secret to warrant a large amount of money"
