- He was found guilty of murder in Birmingham, West Midlands, on 25 April 2015. He poured white spirit over himself and his 31-year-old wife during an argument at their home and set her on fire. He then set himself on fire. He claimed the fire was an accident and that the white spirit was ignited by a cigarette while they were decorating. His wife suffered 60% burns to her face, ears, neck body, arm and leg and died in hospital on 12 June 2015. His victim made a recorded statement giving her account to police which was played to the court.
The judge said: "You deliberately threw a significant quantity of white spirit over [her] clothes and then deliberately set fire to her ... [She] was very quickly engulfed in flames with her upper body becoming a fireball... It is difficult to think of a more wicked attempt to conceal a crime... [She] suffered terribly before she died." - Online Resources
