- He was found guilty of rape in Gateshead, Tyne And Wear, on 17 May 1990. He was found not guilty of attempted buggery (jurors were unable to reach a verdict on a charge of indecent assault). He attacked his 20-year-old victim, a woman who he did not know, after approaching her at Gateshead Metro Station. He dragged his victim into an area of wasteland where he raped her. He was caught for the historic offence as part of a cold case review following advances in DNA. He was traced to Hawaii, USA and extradited to the UK (US-UK extradition treaty) in April 2013.
