Chambers is one of the leading Family law sets in the country, recommended for (and with a formidable reputation in) both children and finance cases.  Chambers is also well known for its Criminal law work and offers a comprehensive Dispute Resolution Service.

The set: With 55 barristers, including 13 QCs, 1kbw is a set with a wealth of expertise at all levels of seniority, enabling it to respond flexibly and comprehensively to the particular demands of each case. We are dedicated to providing clients with an excellent service, assisting them to meet their objectives in litigation, advisory work and dispute resolution. We offer a vigorous and supportive approach, providing the highest standards of professionalism and commitment.

Chambers has been awarded, and has retained for over a decade Bar Mark and Quality Mark for the Bar in recognition of the levels of service provided.  The clerks’ room operates at a high level of efficiency, and the clerks are readily available to answer any questions about chambers and its services.

Chambers offers a comprehensive programme of CPD accredited conferences on both Family and Crime related topics.

Types of work undertaken: 1kbw specialises in every aspect of Family law before all levels of courts and tribunals both in this country and abroad whether funded privately, by CFA or Legal Aid.  Although frequently involved in high profile, big money matrimonial finance cases, as well as in cutting edge child law litigation cases, at 1kbw each and every client is important and valued.  We provide counsel with a proven track record who offer excellent, expert, practical advocacy and advice.

1kbw has a substantial Dispute Resolution team, comprising 24 members of whom 9 are QCs. This approach is particularly suited to resolving issues concerning children, as well as cases where both financial and children issues arise, thereby avoiding the traditional ‘court battle’.  1kbw has offered a dedicated mediation service since 1998. Appointments can be made at short notice and arranged at any time of the day to fit in with work, education or child-care commitments.

Chambers provides expertise in all areas of Criminal work from proceedings in the magistrates’ courts to appeals before the Supreme Court, formerly the House of Lords. The growing area of commercial crime, including allegations of defrauding companies, is a notable specialism. Members have been involved in the prosecution and defence of accountants, financial advisers and a variety of other professional people in a number of such cases. Members have acted for the Serious Fraud Office, as well as appearing in cases against it. They also have extensive experience in handling the Civil work that frequently arises in the aftermath.

Personal Injury and Professional Negligence cases, disputes between landlords and tenants, as well as various Tribunal and appellate matters, are also handled.  Chambers is, in addition, able to advise on a wide range of other matters, as individual members have their own particular areas of expertise. Prominent among these are Planning and Environmental law issues, Insolvency cases, Judicial Review, and Tribunal and Inquiry work. Official Referee’s business is also dealt with and members participate in Human Rights cases, both in the UK and the European Courts.
