In the past few years Mike and his colleagues have increasingly been called on to prepare independent reports for solicitors, typically in the context of Mental Health Tribunals and Welfare Guardianship issues, though also a range of other issues, including: planning enquiry, contested adoption proceedings, challenge to withdrawal of Care Commission registration, and judicial review proceedings in relation to Probation Service management of after care of a disabled offender.
Mike has over 30 years experience as a social work practitioner, service manager, Director of Development and Director of Quality, working in both statutory social work agencies and in the voluntary sector. Mike left his post of Director of Quality with a national disability organisation in August 2003, to set up his own business. Since 2003 Mike has worked as a consultant, researcher, trainer and independent social worker with over 50 organisations. He worked as a locum Care Commission Officer (now Care Inspectorate) for several years, and as a consultant for NHS Quality Improvement Scotland.
Mike and his associates have worked with over 20 firms of solicitors in the past five years. As well as producing independent reports, Mike has assisted solicitors in identifying and recruiting other expert witnesses and independent reporters from a range of backgrounds. Mike is currently working on development of a social enterprise business to provide support to solicitors and agencies wishing to identify specific expertise from across the range of professional disciplines.
