- She had conceived the child during an affair with a work colleague and kept the pregnancy a secret from her partner of 11years. She had wrapped the childs body in toilet paper and a hand towel, and placed it in a black plastic bag and Waitrose carrier bag, and hid it in the boot of her Vauxhall Astra. The body was discovered 10 days later by police acting on concerns over her missed hospital appointments. She insisted the child had been stillborn and a post-mortem was inconclusive as to whether the baby was alive or dead at birth.
The judge said: "You have told so many lies to so many people in the months leading up to the birth and afterwards that I have lost count…Your campaign has had a devastating effect on two young men ... This offence, although rare, is serious. The deception makes it more so… I am informed that since this matter came to light you have attempted suicide while suffering from depression and a consultant psychiatrist said it is likely you have a severe personality disorder… I do not consider that immediate imprisonment would be appropriate." - Mitigating & Aggravating Factors
